- So, what is it that you do?

- I talk with people in distress.

- And… does it help?

- If they let it, it does.

Hello, Joanna here.

When I have entered my therapy years ago finding myself in a difficult situation, I told my therapist about pain and confusion I had been experiencing, she said: “Why, that’s good! The change is underway.” I could not believe it - I wanted to keep things calm, clear and safe. And I wanted her help in doing so! What ensued was a journey of growth I did not plan nor foreseen. But it was enlightening, inspiring and yes, it helped me to make changes and bring in a new direction to my life.

Change is what psychotherapy is about. Sometimes a change has happened already, a sudden loss, a breakdown, illness, a broken relationship… and its meaning waits patiently to be unpacked. And sometimes change needs to be consciously invited when things are painfully stuck or stagnant.

Change is difficult and scary. Change is necessary and liberating. Change is possible not despite, but because of the symptoms or difficult emotions; they point us to what is needed.
